APC Chairman Stopped from Voting Without Voter’s Card Amid Chaos in Edo Election

The APC Chairman for Edo State, Jeret Tenebe, was prevented from casting his vote after arriving at Polling Unit 6 in Ikabigbo without a valid voter’s card. The situation quickly escalated into chaos as the polling unit’s electorates demanded that he provide his voter’s card, which he could not produce.

The scene was captured in a video shared by a user on X (formerly Twitter), showing the chaotic moment when the electorates stopped Tenebe from voting. The incident has drawn widespread attention, as many believe that as the state’s APC Chairman, he should set an example by adhering to the rules.

Despite his efforts to cast a ballot without a voter’s card, the electorates at the polling unit stood their ground and prevented Jeret Tenebe from participating in the election. This action by the voters has been praised by many as a strong stance against electoral misconduct, particularly from a political leader expected to uphold democratic principles.

“This is the APC Chairman of Edo State,” said one eyewitness. “He should be setting an example, not trying to bypass the rules by voting without a voter’s card.”

The video of the chaotic scene also highlighted the ongoing vote buying and other irregularities that have plagued the Edo election. Local sources have reported multiple incidents of party agents, including those from both APC and PDP, offering large sums of money to voters in exchange for their support.

This further underscores the widespread problems of election irregularities in Nigeria, as incidents of bribery and attempts to vote without proper documentation continue to surface across polling units in the state.

Beyond the Jeret Tenebe incident, numerous reports of electoral misconduct have been made throughout the day. Party agents have been seen openly offering bribes to voters, with both APC and PDP agents involved in this malpractice at various polling units. These irregularities are raising concerns about the fairness and transparency of the election process in Edo State.

Despite the ongoing challenges, election observers and officials are working to ensure that the process remains as fair as possible. However, the series of irregularities, including the actions of high-ranking party members like Jeret Tenebe, has left many questioning the integrity of the election.
