APC Rejects Calls to Reverse Tinubu’s Policies Despite Hardship

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed calls for a reversal of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, despite the widespread economic challenges facing Nigerians. Opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have urged the government to reconsider its reforms, arguing that the policies are increasing the burden on citizens. However, the APC has made it clear that there will be no policy reversal.

Speaking on October 11, 2024, the APC Director of Publicity, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, stressed that the current reforms are essential for long-term economic stability. He acknowledged the hardship from the policies but explained that these measures aim to fix deep-rooted problems in Nigeria’s economy. “The country had been bleeding heavily under previous administrations,” Ibrahim noted, blaming the economic mismanagement of past governments for the current difficulties. He urged the opposition to support the government’s efforts to set Nigeria on a path to sustainable growth, rather than pushing for a return to ineffective policies of the past.

Ibrahim highlighted that Tinubu’s policies align with the “Renewed Hope” agenda, which aims to revitalize the economy and ensure long-term benefits for Nigerians. While these reforms may seem harsh in the short term, Ibrahim argued that they will ultimately uplift the socio-economic well-being of the people. He stressed that the APC remains focused on achieving real change, even though the initial effects may be challenging.

Response to Opposition Claims

The APC also responded to the PDP’s claims that the party is trying to establish a one-party system, particularly following the recent Edo State governorship election. Ibrahim rejected these allegations, asserting that the APC remains committed to upholding democratic values. He added that while opposition is vital for democracy, it must be constructive rather than destructive.

Despite the challenges, the APC stands by Tinubu’s reforms, expressing confidence that these tough policies will ultimately lead to a stronger, more resilient Nigerian economy.
