Popular Nigerian music star Davido Adeleke, known simply as Davido, has taken to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express his dissatisfaction with the ongoing Edo State Governorship Election. Despite not being from Edo State, the singer has closely followed the election, in series of posts, criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and raising concerns about alleged irregularities.
Davido, who resides in Lagos State and is originally from Osun State, clarified his deep interest in the Edo election. According to him, his mother hails from Edo State, which explains his vested interest in the election’s outcome.
In one of his posts, Davido did not hide his disappointment with INEC’s handling of the election, comparing it to the challenges faced during his uncle’s election in Osun State. His post read:
“My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha .. @inecnigeria shame on you I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun ! It’s really bad. God help us.”
The singer has been vocal about the alleged manipulation of results in Edo North, urging voters not to accept falsified results. He also encouraged Edo electorates to stay vigilant by heading to the collation centers to monitor the vote counting process, stating that winning the election is one thing, but being declared a winner by INEC is another challenge entirely.
As the nephew of the current Governor of Osun State, Davido has made it clear that he has a personal stake in the 2026 Osun State election, where his uncle will be seeking re-election. In a post directed at INEC, Davido warned that any attempts to manipulate the 2026 election in Osun would not be tolerated:
“We Dey wait for Osun 2026 … try this nonsense first @inecnigeria.”
Davido’s involvement in the political space is not new. His outspoken stance on electoral integrity during the Osun State elections, where his uncle eventually won, gained him significant attention. With his recent posts, Davido continues to push for transparency and fairness in elections, not just in Edo State but across the country.
As the Edo election progresses, Davido’s remarks highlight the growing demand for a transparent electoral process in Nigeria. His voice adds to the increasing number of Nigerians calling for reform and accountability from INEC.
