Delta Police Recover 144 Firearms in 2025 Security Crackdown

Police record major security gains across Delta State

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major gains in its fight against crime, recovering 144 sophisticated firearms and arresting 627 suspects between January and December 2025. The command described the figures as evidence of sustained security operations across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the details on December 10, 2025, through his verified social media account. According to him, the recoveries followed intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations, and coordinated responses to violent crimes across Delta communities.

Breakdown of recovered weapons and ammunition

Breakdowns of the recovered weapons show that police operatives seized 27 AK-47 rifles, 36 pump-action guns, 25 Beretta pistols, and 56 locally made firearms, commonly known as cut-to-size guns. In addition, officers recovered 6,930 rounds of ammunition, preventing them from falling into criminal hands.

Arrests and ransom recovery weaken criminal networks

Beyond firearms, the command also recorded significant progress against kidnapping and armed robbery. Edafe confirmed that police operatives recovered ₦36 million in ransom paid by victims during various operations, further weakening criminal networks operating within the state.

Arrest records indicate that the suspects include 140 suspected armed robbers, 113 suspected kidnappers, 125 murder suspects, 187 suspected cultists, and 62 suspects linked to rape and defilement cases. The police said ongoing investigations will determine individual culpability, while prosecutors prepare charges against those found culpable.

Police credit intelligence and community cooperation

Furthermore, the command credited community cooperation, improved intelligence sharing, and proactive patrols for the success recorded during the year. Security sources also noted that sustained pressure on criminal hideouts forced several gangs to abandon weapons and retreat from urban centres.

Command reassures residents on safety

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace, especially during festive periods and election seasons. The command urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and continue working with law enforcement agencies.

The latest figures underline a broader effort to curb violent crime in Delta State, as authorities intensify operations to protect lives, property, and economic activities across the state.
