The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to investigate serious allegations of vote manipulation in the ongoing Edo State governorship election. This announcement was made in a press release on Saturday evening, following reports of potential inaccuracies in polling unit results.
Concerns about the election’s integrity have intensified after a controversial result sheet surfaced, allegedly from the INEC, linked to the Etsako Polling Unit. According to the document, the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly received 352 votes, despite there being only 213 accredited voters. This alarming discrepancy of 280 votes has sparked significant accusations of electoral fraud against the APC and raised questions about the election’s fairness.
The result sheet indicated that there were 493 registered voters at the polling unit, further complicating the credibility of the reported results.
In light of these troubling allegations, the INEC stated, “We have been made aware of claims regarding inaccuracies in the polling unit result sheets for the Edo State governorship election. This marks the second complaint out of the 4,519 polling units involved in the election process.”
The commission has committed to conducting a thorough investigation and taking appropriate actions against any proven infractions.
