Popular Nigerian activist and social media influencer, Very Dark Man, has sent a powerful message to Nigerian youths, urging them to prepare for an upcoming protest against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a video posted on his social media page, the influencer expressed his frustration with the EFCC’s continuous harassment and arrest of young Nigerians, often without concrete evidence of any wrongdoing.
In his video, Very Dark Man highlighted the ongoing issue where the EFCC targets young Nigerians driving luxury cars such as Lexus and Mercedes-Benz, branding them as “Yahoo boys” (a local term for internet fraudsters). He stated that the EFCC has been conducting unwarranted arrests and breaking into the homes of these youths, often without valid evidence or proper legal procedures. The influencer specifically cited a recent case where the EFCC stormed a Nigerian university, arresting students and labeling them as fraudsters without search warrants or substantial proof.
In a scathing critique, Very Dark Man also questioned the EFCC’s inability to arrest former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who remains wanted for his alleged involvement in an N80.2 billion money laundering scandal. Despite the EFCC reportedly having solid evidence against the ex-governor, no significant action has been taken to bring him to justice.
The activist accused the EFCC of engaging in a “double standard” approach with the former governor, deceiving Nigerians by failing to hold influential individuals accountable for their financial crimes. He contrasted this with the EFCC’s aggressive targeting of young Nigerians, most of whom are often falsely labeled as fraudsters without evidence.
In his powerful message, Very Dark Man urged Nigerian youths to join him in a massive protest, with the aim of holding the EFCC accountable for its actions. He emphasized that the protest has two clear demands: the EFCC must either arrest Yahaya Bello or the Chairman of the Commission should resign immediately.
“This protest is about fairness and justice. They can harass and arrest our youths without evidence, but they can’t arrest Yahaya Bello despite having all the proof of his crimes. Enough is enough,” said Very Dark Man in his video.
The upcoming protest, which has already gained significant attention on social media, is expected to rally thousands of Nigerian youths who share the same frustrations about the EFCC’s approach to law enforcement.
The protest is seen as a call for transparency and fairness from the EFCC, which has long been criticized for focusing on smaller cases while allowing powerful individuals to escape justice. Very Dark Man’s message has resonated deeply with the public, and it remains to be seen how the EFCC will respond to these growing demands for reform.
