In a tragic incident in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death during a domestic dispute. The shocking event unfolded on October 4, 2024, at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The Horrific Sequence of Events
According to reports, an argument between Motunrayo and Olajumoke escalated to violence. During the confrontation, Motunrayo reportedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife multiple times in the abdomen. After inflicting the fatal wounds, he locked her inside their home and set the building ablaze in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence or harm himself in the process. Witnesses and neighbors quickly raised the alarm, leading to a swift response from the police and fire services.
Police Response and Arrest
The Ikorodu Police Division received a distress call and quickly dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, the authorities extinguished the fire and entered the residence, only to discover Olajumoke’s lifeless body, which had sustained significant abdominal wounds. The police also found Motunrayo inside the home with minor self-inflicted injuries. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment, and afterward, police took him into custody for questioning(Positive FM).
Ongoing Investigation
Preliminary investigations suggest that the altercation turned deadly due to the intensity of the domestic scuffle. The police have launched a full investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and the circumstances leading up to the tragic event. Officials transported Olajumoke’s body to the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy will determine the official cause of death
