Two Women Arrested for Alleged Involvement in Selling Newborn Twins in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two women for their alleged involvement in the sale of newborn twins. The suspects, Chinelo Igbechionwu and Ujunwa Una, were apprehended by officers on patrol in the Ojodu Berger Axis on September 9, 2024.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), the women were found in possession of newborn female twins, estimated to be around six days old. The police suspect the babies were being transported for illegal sale. During interrogation, the women admitted they had been paid N150,000 each to transport the infants from Abia State to a nurse in Lagos.

The police have stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and efforts are being made to uncover the full scope of the operation. Authorities are particularly interested in locating the nurse who was set to receive the babies in Lagos.

The two suspects are now in custody, and further developments are expected as the investigation progresses. This case has sparked outrage, and residents are calling for stricter measures against human trafficking and child exploitation.
