Hinckley Recycling, a UK-based company, is set to invest $5 million in establishing Nigeria’s first battery recycling facility in Ogun State. This plant will focus on lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries, utilizing patented UK technology.
The announcement follows a visit by British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, to Lagos and Ogun States, highlighting the UK’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and investment opportunities.
During his four-day trip, Dr. Montgomery met with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, discussing economic partnerships and development initiatives. He also engaged with business leaders, including executives from Airtel Nigeria, Standard Chartered, and KPMG West Africa.
Dr. Montgomery expressed enthusiasm about the new facility, stating, “Hinckley Recycling’s investment will create a high-value export industry in Ogun State and generate 100 direct jobs.” He reaffirmed the UK’s support for local investment initiatives and highlighted previous support through the British International Investment.
This venture marks a significant step toward boosting Nigeria’s economic prospects and promoting sustainable practices in battery disposal.
